Lyric’s birth was more than a delivery; it was a moment of transformation, for her and for us. A second-time mom navigating unexpected circumstances, Lyric found herself facing an unplanned induction and a wave of emotions that came with it. She was in crisis, scared, overwhelmed, and needing steady, compassionate support.
She was also my pro bono client, and I was committed to being there for her. But life, in its unpredictable way, had other plans. I had an important appointment for my daughter the next morning that I simply couldn’t reschedule. I knew Lyric deserved full support, and I wasn’t willing to compromise that. So I reached out to my doula community, hoping someone would answer the call.
And then came Lacrisha.
She didn’t hesitate. She knew this was an unpaid birth, and still, she showed up with her heart wide open. We met at the hospital, and I stayed for a few hours, long enough to help Lyric settle in, create a game plan, and make sure both she and Lacrisha felt supported. It was Lacrisha’s first solo birth as a doula, part of her certification journey, and the energy in the room was tender, focused, and full of trust.
Lyric labored beautifully. Despite the fear and uncertainty, she found her strength. With Crisha by her side, she leaned into the process, breathing through the waves, letting go of everything outside that room. Her bravery was palpable. She was present, powerful, and so deeply resilient.
Her birth was beautiful. And in that space, something else was born too: the beginning of a partnership that felt divinely timed. Crisha and I knew, almost instantly, that we were meant to connect. From that moment on, she began shadowing me, and together we’ve built a friendship and a working relationship that I cherish deeply. Having her on my team has been a gift, one that started with Lyric’s story.
Lyric’s birth reminds me that even in moments of uncertainty, grace finds a way. Her courage, Crisha’s generosity, and the bond we formed that day will always hold a special place in my heart.
